Ownership over the years (pg. 1)


Pre-construction

    Hugh Davison of Huntington County, Pennsylvania, in pursuance of a land warrant dated October 15, 1790, had a tract of land surveyed to him in Plum Township called Grafton. The piece of ground included the present site of 131 School Road and was described as containing 100 acres. On February 25, 1796, Hugh Davidson conveyed the same warrant containing 100 acres, with an allowance of 6%, to John Stewart Jr.

    November 26, 1796 (Patent Book 31: 207): The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania conveyed the same 100-acre tract of land to John Stewart Jf. by patent deed.

    Later deeds described the boundaries of the 100-acre tract as beginning at as post where the said tract comers with land of Samuel Ross and of Michael Coon; then by the said Coon's land northwest 2640'; northwest 321.75'; southeast 2409'; southeast 445.5'; southwest 1221' to a black oak; and southwest 1617' to the place of beginning.

    April 20. 1801 (Allegheny County Deed Book 14: 15): Jane and John Stewart Jr. of Elizabeth Township, Allegheny County, conveyed the 100-acre tract to William Stewart of Plum Township for 100 pounds Pennsylvania money.

    William Stewart died intestate in or before 1827, while owning the 100-acre tract of land that included the present site of 131 School Road. He was survived by eight children, each of whom inherited 1/8 interest in his land.

    December 13. 1827 (Deed Book 166: 435): Susan and William Stewart Jf. of Portage County, Ohio, conveyed their 1/8 interest in the 100-acre tract formerly owned by William Stewart to Uzziah Stewart and John Summerhill of Plum Township for $100.

    January 29. 1829 (Deed Book 166: 436): Jonathan and Elizabeth Stewart of Ravenna Township, Portage County, Ohio, conveyed their 1/8 interest in the 100-acre tract formerly owned by William Stewart to Uzziah Stewart of Allegheny County for $100.

    October 8. 1831 (Deed Book 166: 438): John and Jane Stewart of Beaver County, Pennsylvania conveyed their 1/8 interest in the 100-acre tract formerly owned by William Stewart to Uzziah Stewart of Allegheny County for $100.

    September 20. 1835 (Deed Book 166: 439): Campbell Stewart of Fayette County, Tennessee, and George and Miriam Amon of Pittsburgh conveyed their combined 1/4 interest in the 100-acre tract formerly owned by William Stewart to Uzziah Stewart of Allegheny County for $200.
