In 1866 the court sold the Stewart faIm to Peter Hutchinson, but subsequently voided the sale because the Stewart children had indicated willingness to purchased the farm for a larger amount. In 1867 Joseph c., Jane E., and Uzziah Stewart Jr. put down $500 hand money toward purchasing the farm for $7800, but were not able to pay the remainder despite being granted an extension. In April 1868 the Orphan's Court sold the farm to Pittsburgh attorney Thomas Ewing for $6815, ending the Stewart family's 72-year ownership of the property. Ewing sold the farm for $9000 a year later.
